Taxes

1. Property Tax — Primary Residence

Honorably discharged Nevada resident who served 90+ continuous active-duty days during any of these designated wartime periods (NRS 361.090), or any veteran awarded a campaign or expeditionary medal:

Authority: NRS 361.090 (wartime), NRS 361.091 (disabled veteran)

2. Property Tax — Vehicle / Personal Property

Same exemption pool as category 1. The wartime ($3,540 AV) and disabled veteran ($17,700/$26,550/$35,400 AV) exemptions can be applied to the government services tax on vehicle registration instead of (or in addition to, up to the total exemption amount) real property taxes.

Authority: NRS 361.090, NRS 361.091

3. Vehicle Sales / Use Tax

Nevada has no veteran or disabled veteran sales/use tax exemption for vehicle purchases. The exemption structure covers only the annual government services tax (registration privilege tax), not the one-time sales/use tax at purchase.

4. State Income Tax — Active Duty Military Pay

**Unavailable as a separate benefit** — Nevada has no individual state income tax. Active duty pay is automatically tax-free in Nevada with zero paperwork. No exemption form is needed.

5. State Income Tax — Military Retirement Pay

**Unavailable as a separate benefit** — Nevada has no individual state income tax. Military retirement pay (DFAS), Thrift Savings Plan distributions, and all other military income are permanently and automatically exempt. No filing or application required.

6. State Income Tax — SBP Annuity

**Unavailable as a separate benefit** — Nevada has no state income tax. SBP/RCSBP annuity payments to surviving spouses are completely state-tax-free by default. Federal income tax still applies.

7. State Income Tax — General

Nevada imposes no individual income tax on any income type — VA disability compensation, pension, wages, investment income, or other. This is a constitutional provision (Art. 10, § 1, Nev. Const.) and requires no action by veterans.

8. Sales Tax Exemption

Nevada does not issue a blanket sales-tax exemption card to veterans. Standard Nevada sales tax (6.85% state + county surcharges, up to approximately 8.375% in Clark County) applies to all veteran consumer purchases. The only sales-tax-adjacent benefit is a three-day Nevada Day sales-tax exemption available to Nevada National Guard members and their families — not a veteran-specific card.

9. Other State Tax Breaks

**Mortgage Credit Certificate (MCC):** Available to veterans (no first-time-buyer requirement) through the Nevada Housing Division's Home Is Possible program. Provides a federal income tax credit of up to 20–30% of mortgage interest paid annually. ⚠️ Verify current credit percentage, income cap, and purchase-price cap at homeispossiblenv.org before applying — limits adjust periodically.
Verify locally: ⚠️ Verify current credit percentage, income cap, and purchase-price cap at homeispossiblenv.

Vehicle, Travel & ID

10. Vehicle Registration Fee

**Wartime/Disabled Veteran Exemption on Government Services Tax:** See categories 1–2. Disabled veterans (60%+) and wartime veterans can offset all or part of the annual government services tax (registration privilege tax) on their vehicle using their property tax exemption.

Authority: NRS 371 (Governmental Services Tax); NRS 361.090–361.091

11. Disabled Veteran License Plates

Service-connected disability rated at 100%, or combined ratings totaling 100%, or any rating constituting a permanent disability qualifying the veteran for handicapped status.

Authority: NRS 482.377

12. Other Veteran / Military Specialty Plates

All plates available at Nevada DMV. Most require DD-214 or proof of award.

Authority: NRS 482.377 | dmv.nv.gov

13. Toll Road / Bridge Exemption

27. Boat / Watercraft Registration

No veteran-specific boat registration fee waiver or discount exists in Nevada. Standard Nevada boat registration fees apply. (The $30 Disabled Veteran State Parks Permit covers boat launch fees at state park facilities — that is a launch fee benefit, not a registration fee waiver.)
